Utah – Family-friendly hotel with an amazing view

Red Cliffs Lodge definitely ranks way up there in hotels with an amazing view. This gorgeous property is not far from Moab, Utah. While it is a bit of a drive from town, the amazing views more than make up for added driving time.

It’s easy to see where they got the inspiration for the hotel name.

We stayed in a double queen mini suite in the Creekside section. The rooms have outdoor corridors, but don’t let that turn you away. It’s very convenient to be able to drive right up to your door; plus, with this layout, the suites each have a patio out back with amazing views. This was the view from our patio.

Inside, the suites have two queen-size beds, a desk, and a TV in the bedroom area.

I love the rustic, western decor.

A couple of steps down is the sitting/dining/kitchen area. The patio is just outside this area.

The hotel offers several recreational opportunities including horseback riding and rafting (for an extra fee, of course). My favorite free recreational activity is the pool. The view is simply amazing!

In my post about Canyonlands National Park, I mentioned that we were supposed to visit the Island in the Sky section of the park on the second day, but made an impromptu change of plans. Swimming in this pool was what we did instead. Red Cliffs Lodge conveniently stocks beach towels in each room.

An outdoor restaurant offers a buffet lunch with a view. The restaurant is designed to serve tour groups on rafting adventures, but is also open to individuals and families.

We dined with a beautiful view of the cliffs and the rest of the property which includes these teepees.

The kids explored while my husband and I dropped into the onsite winery for a free tasting.

Dinner is served at the onsite Cowboy Grill. We didn’t dine here, but I snuck inside for a picture. There are tables both inside and on the outdoor deck. Another amazing view. I took a peek at the menu. Entrees range from $14-32.

Another very cool feature of Red Cliffs is the Movie Museum. Officially named the Moab Museum of Film and Western Heritage, the exhibits here showcase movie posters and memorabilia from the many films made in the area.

You’ll find exhibits on classic John Wayne westerns along with movies of my generation: Back to the Future II & III, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Thelma and Louise, City Slickers II, and Forrest Gump.

This was truly a lovely property and a good base for exploring Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. My kids loved it too. I would love to go back again sometime.
