Biltmore is the largest privately owned house in the United States. It had been on my bucket list for quite some time and I was excited when I was able to work it into our Christmas travel plans last year.

What is already an elaborately decorated mansion gets an over-the-top treatment for Christmas. And people just flock to Biltmore. Over and over again. On the shuttle ride from the parking lot to the house, our guide asked how many people were visiting Biltmore for the first time and we were the only people who raised our hands!

Kentucky – Christmas at the Galt House – A Christmas Carol

Last year I visited Christmas at the Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky, for the first time. I was so impressed that I wrote an epic post about it. This year they made a significant update to the KaLightoscope exhibit, so when they invited me back for a media preview, I jumped at the chance to see the changes. They invested over $2 million to completely redo the luminaries with a new theme. Now KaLightoscope tells the story of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Perhaps you remember our visit to the charming town of North Pole, Alaska. I am fascinated by towns that get to celebrate Christmas all year long. We recently had a chance to visit another: Santa Claus, Indiana. One summer during my college years, I lived in Evansville, Indiana, and when I would drive home for a weekend, I’d always see the sign for Santa Claus. It took 25 years, but I finally got to visit this cute town that has streets named after reindeer, carols, and everything Christmas.
