One of the many things I love about my job is the opportunity to work with visitors bureaus to plan my trip itineraries because sometimes they come up with ideas that I wouldn’t have thought of myself. Going for a bike ride through Amish Country is a perfect example. AmishCountry.org made all the arrangements for my kids and me to enjoy a bike ride on the tranquil Pumpkinvine Nature Trail. This trail is a 16.5-mile route that connects the communities of Goshen, Middlebury, and Shipshewana in Northern Indiana. They arranged for bicycle rentals from Pumpkinvine Cyclery in Middlebury.
When I was writing my ebook on How to Visit All 50 States in 12 Trips, I tried to include unique attractions that reflected the character of each state. I was thrilled to discover that Indiana had an attraction that is truly unique, that you can’t find anywhere else in the world. I’m talking about the Quilt Gardens along the Heritage Trail in Northern Indiana’s Amish Country. What’s a Quilt Garden? Imagine a giant quilt created from colorful flowers.

We had the opportunity to visit Northern Indiana’s Amish Country last summer for a couple days. Our first stop was Amish Acres Historic Farm & Heritage Resort, an historic Old Order Amish Farm that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
