Our trip through Nevada was a short one, with not many stops. Visiting Lake Tahoe was a must for us and the representatives from Tahoe South recommended that we stop at Round Hill Pines Beach & Marina which they consider to be a hidden gem for families. We were game.
Round Hill Pines is open in the summer only and has a sandy beach and water sports available. The parking fee ranges from $8-10. You can either bring your own chairs and tents or rent them there. The sand was grainy and pebbly–not the best for building sand castles. The sand was also very hot, so make sure you bring flip flops or water shoes for walking through the sand. You might want to bring a Frisbee to toss when you want to take a break from water activities.
A water sports company is on site and offers rentals on paddle boats, stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, jet skis, and parasailing. A sightseeing cruise is also offered.
We decided to give stand-up paddle boarding a try and rented two of them. I don’t remember the exact age cut-off, but my youngest daughter, who was 10 years old at the time, was required to wear a life jacket.
We took turns and my son and husband gave it a try too.
I tried it too, but there’s no way I’m showing those pictures. You don’t have to stand up on them if you don’t want to.
The water was clear and cold, but swimmable. Many visitors brought their own flotation devices and just floated on the water. If you want to take a break from the cold water, a heated swimming pool is on site.
Round Hill Pines also has a snack bar, restaurant, and bar. Here’s the snack bar menu.
Here’s the restaurant.
Patio seating was available.
It was a little too early in the day for people to be at the bar when I took this next photo.
We also saw a bungee trampoline, but didn’t try it.
We arrived in the morning and by the time we left at 1 p.m., the parking lot was MUCH more crowded. In fact, we had a heck of a time finding a parking spot at the next beach. For that reason, I don’t recommend beach hopping at Lake Tahoe. Pick one, arrive early, and stay put.
