How to Visit All 50 States in 12 Trips – Second Edition

It’s been nearly a year since I released the first edition of How to Visit All 50 States in 12 Trips, so it was time for an update. In case you didn’t receive the first edition, here’s what it’s all about:

People are intrigued by the idea of visiting all 50 states. I’ve met many, many people who can tell me the exact number of states they have been to. Visiting all 50 states is a very doable goal. There are fewer people who want to take their kids to all 50 states, but they do exist. Some I’ve met in person and others have found me via this site through a Google search.

So, how do you do it? Planning to see all 50 states is both simple and complicated. It’s simple because there are really just two basic principles you need to follow:

  1. Visit multiple states on every major trip (well, except for Alaska and Hawaii).  AND
  2. Plan out your trips in advance so that you make sure you visit all of them by your goal date.

Simple, right? But the devil is in the details. Planning a multi-state itinerary is complicated. The good news is that I’ve done the work for you. How to Visit All 50 States in 12 Trips is a 40-page ebook I’ve written that lays out 12 trips with attractions in all 50 states. And I’m giving it away FREE.  Just sign up to receive email updates from this site and you’ll receive a link to download the book.

Inside you’ll find maps and itineraries for each trip, with suggested sights to see in each location.  I’ve already written about many of those attractions on this site and will continue to write about the others. Where applicable, there’s a link to the article. In this second edition, I’ve tweaked some of the routes and added several more links. My family has taken many of these trips. There are some that we have not taken yet, but plan to.  (The side benefit is that I have my vacation planning done for the next several years.)  I do not like to write about places where I haven’t taken my own family, so I turned to my fellow family travel bloggers and asked for their input on the trips I have not yet taken. I trust their advice.

Here’s an example of one of the maps in the e-book. This is basically the trip that we took in 2011.

Hi. I have signed up for your newsletter however I can not seem to download the eBook. I’m very anxious to read it as my husband and I are almost halfway to visiting all 50 states. Please help. Thanks.

Terri, I am subscribed but cannot access the second edition; please advise. Thank you for all you do; our entire family looks forward to your posts. Also, we are trying to squeeze Ohio into our trip this summer. If you could only choose one stop for nine year old fraternal twins, what would it be? Thanks so much! :0)Kendra

Kendra – I just emailed you a copy of the ebook. Thanks so much for your kind words! I love that everyone in your family reads my posts!!! It’s a tough choice to pick just one stop for Ohio. I’m going to have to go with the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, OH. You’ll learn about the history of Wright Brothers and aviation in general. Then, for dinner, try some Cincinnati Chili, then Graeter’s Ice Cream for dessert. Those are Cincinnati things, but you can find them in Dayton too.

Chelsea – Thanks for your excitement! You should have received two emails after you subscribed. The first one asks you to confirm that you really do want to subscribe and the second one contains a link to the ebook. You aren’t the first person who has had trouble though, so I will email it to you directly.
