I love the small personal feel of this kind of place. The admission is so much more doable for many families budgets! Great place to add to the travel plans. I wonder if they have discounts for the locals? Something I’ll have to check.

Eva – I hope you enjoy it. You hit the nail on the head. When you have are trying to visit all 50 states in a limited amount of time, you have to make some tough choices when narrowing down the many options. I’ve tried to pick attractions in each state that are unique to the state. I’ve also tried to balance activity types to make each trip an appealing family vacation. Please keep in touch and give me feedback about the places I’ve picked and let me know if there are other must-sees that I haven’t included.

I’m looking forward to reading your book. My son is 7 & although he’s been to 17 states already I would like to plan a trip when he turns 12 & do all 50 states in that year. I hope your book will give me some ideas on where to narrow down the trips as we will have to travel in the summer & during school breaks. Thanks!

We drove across Tamiami trail a few years ago and saw tons of alligators on the side of the road and at the rest area. Kind of creepy actually – but a cool creepy, if you can get past the idea that a gator can take your arm off if they decide. What a crazy place!

We visited Alligator Alley on our Spring Break this year. We stayed at Orange Beach, AL (which I LOVED, by the way). On the way home we stopped to see the alligators. It’s pretty impressive how Wes feeds the alligators. He calls them up and hand feeds them. Crazy! We liked the swamp too, but they didn’t seem too hungry when we were feeding them. Probably because they are fed so much. Definitely worth a stop at least once!

This looks like one of those super ghetto places that ends up being really really cool! I happen to have my atlas open to Alabama right now, planning for summer, and am bummed this place isn’t going to end up being close to where we are. Next time!

Wow! I would be scared but this could be fun for the family. I LOVE that sign about how alligators eat bad children… I should get one of those for my house. The sign, not an alligator! ha ha

Yikes! I’m happy to look at them from behind a fence, or hold a little one with its mouth taped shut, but seeing a nine-foot alligator in my yard would freak me out.
