The holiday season is almost here. That means it’s time for Santa’s elves to start working overtime. Whether you’re looking for ideas for gifts to buy or suggestions to give to relatives, I’ve got you covered. I compiled a list of 50 items that would be helpful for traveling families. The list includes big items (luggage) as well small items appropriate for stocking stuffers (deck of cards). It includes items to use to plan your next vacation (travel guidebooks), items to use on your vacation (travel power strip), and items to capture your vacation memories (photo frames).
Some of the […]
We are currently on the longest road trip we’ve ever been on (23 days). We are taking Trip 5 from my ebook, How to Visit All 50 States in 12 Trips and I’m writing this from the beautiful state of Utah. It will take a while for me to blog about all the amazing places we’ve visited, but for a preview, please follow my Facebook page where I’ve been posting pictures. Speaking of being too busy to blog right now, I am thrilled that Motoring.com.au supplied this sponsored post with some tips for eating well on the road, a subject […]
The US is famous for the great American road trip, but cruises are one of the few vacations that parents and kids alike enjoy equally. I’m happy to share this post which was provided by and sponsored by CruiseDeals.
The sheer amount of things to do on board means the kids never get bored in the back of the car (in fact, they’re not even in the back of a car!). Plus, since there aren’t many places for them to get lost, parents can have alone time in peace. Best of all, you hardly have to plan if you book […]
It’s been nearly a year since I released the first edition of How to Visit All 50 States in 12 Trips, so it was time for an update. In case you didn’t receive the first edition, here’s what it’s all about:
People are intrigued by the idea of visiting all 50 states. I’ve met many, many people who can tell me the exact number of states they have been to. Visiting all 50 states is a very doable goal. There are fewer people who want to take their kids to all 50 states, but they do exist. Some I’ve met […]

Planning a road trip is a great way to spend time with the family, but keeping the kids occupied during the ride can be a challenge. And while portable DVD players, tablet computers and MP3 players can be helpful distractions, they can also isolate kids from everyone else in the car. Another way to pass the time is to listen and sing along to road trip songs. Everyone can be involved, and it’ll make the trip fly by. Here are a few suggestions for kid friendly songs to listen to on your […]

There are fewer people who want to take their kids to all 50 states, but they do exist. Some I’ve met in person and others have found me via this site through a Google search.
Over the last year, I’ve posted travel ideas for most of the states, but I really haven’t written about HOW to travel to all 50 states. That’s […]
On our way home from a recent trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama, we reached a significant milestone: the odometer on our minivan reached 200,000 miles. I had my camera ready and captured the moment.
Not only is this the first car we’ve owned that has reached 200,000 miles, it’s the first vehicle we ever purchased new. It’s a 2000 Honda Odyssey that we bought in the spring of 2000. It was the first year of the new body style and the first minivan to feature back row seats that folded down instead of needing to be removed. […]
I like maps. I’ve always liked maps. I could look at them for hours. So it probably doesn’t come as a surprise that we have a big wall map of the United States to keep track of where we’ve been. We put a pin in all the places we’ve been. You can buy map pins at any office supply store. They look like straight pins for sewing, but are a little shorter and have a bigger ball on the end.
But I’m not the only one who loves the map–our entire family does, the kids as much as the […]
The new year is now just days away, and you know what that means. New year’s resolutions. When thinking about new year’s resolutions, most people think of losing weight, exercising, or eating well. How about a more fun kind of resolution that your whole family will enjoy? Why not resolve to visit at least one new state in the new year? Which state have you been wanting to visit?
